How has tourism change Thailand?

Tourism has definitely change Thailand in many different ways. The growth of tourism in Thailand had helped Thailand to increase in standard of living.

As Thailand depends on tourism for most of its income, tourism has increased the income of the country and improves the economic of the country tremendously. It has created jobs for the locals which solved the unemployment of the people. In turn, the standard of living conditions of the local has also improved.

As tourism grows in the country, technologies will have to be improved and to accommodate to the needs of the tourists.

Governments would also conserve more sites and places as tourists are attracted to the natural sites of the country. The environment is save in this way and global warming may be slowed down.

Opening up to tourism is a benefit as tourists are able to understand the locals better and vice-versa. This is known as cultural exchange between tourists and locals. Tourists and the locals may also learn each other’s language so as to communicate better.

However, tourism would allow the locals to be exposed to the tourists behaviours and dressing. Locals will than copy the tourist as it may be something fresh for the locals. This may cause a loss in own culture and a rise in the western trend. Exposing your own cultural sites too much may spoil the sites, architects or artifacts as tourists may vandalise it.

Hence, I think that tourism is a culprit in commodifying cultures and traditions. Tourism brings in tourists. Tourists are the locals of another country. Another country has a different culture. When visiting another country, they bring along their culture and traditions along. The locals of the countries may find the culture of the tourists interesting and hence, copying them. This, in turn, change the traditions and culture of the locals.
